Maximum time delay achievable on propagation through a slow-light medium
We consider the question of whether there are any fundamental limits to the maximum time delay that can be achieved for a pulse propagating through a slow-light medium. We include in our analysis what we consider to be the dominant competing effects, and we show that in principle they do not lead to a limitation on the maximum achievable time delay. From this result we conclude that, through op...
متن کاملThe Effect of Antenna Movement and Material Properties on Electromagnetically Induced Transparency in a Two-Dimensional Metamaterials
Increasing development of nano-technology in optics and photonics by using modern methods of light control in waveguide devices and requiring miniaturization and electromagnetic devices such as antennas, transmission and storage as well as improvement in the electromagnetic tool, have led researchers to use the phenomenon of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and similar phenomena i...
متن کاملFrequency conversion over two-thirds of an octave in silicon nanowaveguides.
We demonstrate ultrabroad-bandwidth low-power frequency conversion of continuous-wave light in a dispersion engineered silicon nanowaveguide via four-wave mixing. Our process produces continuously tunable four-wave mixing wavelength conversion over two-thirds of an octave from 1241-nm to 2078-nm wavelength light with a pump wavelength in the telecommunications C-band.
متن کاملAll-optical slow-light on a photonic chip.
We demonstrate optically tunable delays in a silicon-on-insulator planar waveguide based on slow light induced by stimulated Raman scattering (SRS). Inside an 8-mm-long nanoscale waveguide, we produce a group-index change of 0.15 and generate controllable delays as large as 4 ps for signal pulses as short as 3 ps. The scheme can be implemented at bandwidths exceeding 100 GHz for wavelengths spa...
متن کاملPotentialities of slow and fast light in optical fibers
The ubiquitous role of optical fibers in modern photonic systems has stimulated research to realize slow and fast light devices directly in this close-to-perfect transmission line. Recent progress in developing optically-controlled delays in optical fibers, operating under normal environmental conditions and at telecommunications wavelengths, has paved the way towards real applications for slow...
